I used to be overweight weighing over 200 pounds with my heaviest being 205. When I saw that picture of me in July 2012 (the before photo below) I said enough was enough and started my journey. I couldn't have done it without myfitnesspal. Before I had the myfitnesspal app I had no idea how many calories I was putting into my body. I started being strict with my calorie intake during the week and took off during the weekends. I also started taking a spin class which I got hooked on. It's taken me a long time but I am just a couple pounds away from my goal weight of 150. Now I want to...

Heather Mann needed a vacation. That's what it took to bring her face to face with her reality. She was extremely overweight and life was keeping her too busy to really notice how far out of shape she had become. Here is her story:“Well, I was always an athletic fit teen growing up...that being said, I still needed to watch my weight. I was never over weight, but I could be in a size 6 or 8 and still weigh 175lbs. Then, as most people do when they graduate high school, I literally stopped all forms of exercise. I just didn't do anything physical at all. Compounding the problem, I...

"There comes a point in one person’s life where they think to themselves “alright, enough is enough. I need to change my ways.” Well, that was what happened; the end of the year 2013, I decided to kick myself into shape so I could have a healthier life and endless happiness and confidence. My new year’s resolution for 2012 was to lose 30 pounds. Seeing that the scale reflected that I did not go through with my resolution, I decided to pick it back up again, and give it another shot. It was not easy starting out; I had to switch my diet around, I had to force...

High Protein...low carbs, then 'healthier' food. After several month of "just dieting" John added CrossFit. He did that for 8 or 9 months. Then traditional weightlifting with a bodybuilding 'split' routine. You may think, and you wouldn't be wrong in most cases, that the above chronicled that friend we all have that every few months, they've uncovered the 'SECRET' that will finally help them magically get that body that you'll see on Instagram on 'flex friday'John Hurley would be the exception to that rule.In March of 2013, John was a 40...

One young man who has achieved an incredible turn-around with his health and fitness is our Transformation Tuesday Success, Brandon Buell. As a freshman at Greece Olympia High School, Brandon got involved in Danielle Boneberg's Triathlon Club and lost 50 pounds training for the event..."I was friends with a few people, along with my brother who had talked to me about doing the triathlon my freshmen year and I agreed. At that time, I wasn't really focusing on my weight and i was so self conscious about even the clothes on my body. When I started, it was difficult, but I stuck to it...

"I never thought I could do it. And I certainly never thought I actually would do it. I kept saying to myself- this is what I’m going to look like for the rest of my life, I was overweight and there wasn’t anything I could do about it. I tried to lose weight, but nothing worked, so I was just going to be fat. I wanted to look good, feel attractive, shop at my favorite stores again, be more comfortable in my own skin. But more importantly, I wanted to eat what I wanted, when I wanted AND I had zero interest in exercising. So…. here I was 5’4 and 257 pounds. For...

Anyone who knows me knows I have a deep love and a passion for fitness and people always ask me how my journey began. At 19, I became certified to teach group fitness classes at local gyms in the area. At that age, maintaining and or getting in shape was much easier to achieve and maintain. Then life happened.I finally had a teaching career, got married and had kids. My gym time dwindled and "taking care of me" became further down on my priority list as the number on the scale continued to rise. 160. 170. 180. I "just" needed to lose 20 pounds I kept telling myself. My self-...

Deb Trout is a great example of what 'transformation' is all about about. She has made fitness a priority in her life and it is at the center of her physical, mental and social life. I've posted her story below in her own words, as she tells it better than I ever could. Knowing Deb Trout personally, I know the logistical and financial sacrifices she makes to be part of our club, the Downtown Fitness Club and I appreciate her efforts greatly...and hold her up as an example to anyone who makes excuses as to why they 'cannot'Deb, you are a fitness hero and an inspiration to...

Rich Franco is our featured Transformation Tuesday success story this week! In his own words, here's his story..."My transformation story started with just showing up to CrossFit Webster for what they called a Boot Camp. I knew I was overweight (5’8” 260lb), and had tried several times to get back into the gym but continually found myself bored, unmotivated and really depressed due to my poor self-esteem. After my first day of CrossFit, I felt so sore and tired I could barely get out of bed. That’s when I decided that no matter how badly it hurt, I would show up...
