John Hutchings of Healthy Edge Media discussed building exercise into your day regardless of time or location Tuesday on News 8 at Sunrise.
"I started the day after Labor Day issuing a challenge on Facebook through Healthy Edge Media," said Hutchings. "I did seven burpees. Now, that doesn't sound like a lot, but my point was wherever you are, stop and do a little bit of exercise. Then have a plan to expand on that, and I'm challenging people to add one each day."
Hutchings said "where" applies to location and where you are with your level of physical fitness as well. "One of the things that I've encountered over the years in the fitness business is people feel like they're not in shape to get into shape," he observed. "If it's something as simple as seven burpees, I think almost anyone can do it. I should point out, that people should check with their doctor if they have any medical conditions, limitation or injures, and just to make sure it's appropriate for them."
Hutchings demonstrated a burpee to illustrate his point. "First, you squat down and put your hands on the floor," he said. "You should probably stretch out if you have a tightness in the back or legs, but that's the first movement. Second, you thrust back into a "Plank" position and execute a Push-Up. So the second movement is down, third movement is up, fourth you Frog-Jump back to here and then just hop up."
