"We did a top ten list of trends for 2017, and surprisingly meditation wasn't on the list," Hutchings said. "It should be though, because it is something that is being practiced by more and more people. There's physical benefits of it, obviously. A Harvard research paper has shown that it reduces cholesterol and blood pressure, and it can reduce your risk of stroke and heart disease."

Hutchings said meditation is practical nature. "What you do is you teach your body how to store up rest," he said. "That collective rest is what helps you overcome your stress levels, and gives you the physical benefits. It also has mental health benefits and improves overall well-being as well."

Addressing insomnia is one of the noted mental health benefits. "If you think about people who have trouble getting to sleep, it's good to do on the front side of going to bed," said Hutchings. "I used to practice a very simple breathing exercise, where I focused on the body parts starting at the feet and working up through. I've never even made it to my arms. I fall asleep because it works so well. You also have applications in treating depression and anxiety. It just gives you more happiness. It makes you more productive, and makes you more of a well-rounded person. Again, you don't have to go to a studio to sit there and do your 'oms.' You can do it right there in your bedroom, and get all the benefits that we're talking about."
